How Gauri Became a Physical Therapist Assistant
“I have been part of the physical therapy field since 2000, but my desire to care for others began long before that. As a teenager, I volunteered at my local hospital, drawn by a deep interest in helping people heal and regain their independence. That calling became clearer during my senior year of high school, when I spent several weeks in the inpatient physical therapy department and witnessed the powerful impact of compassionate, hands-on care.
What truly shaped my path was watching my maternal grandfather relearn how to move and live independently after a stroke. Seeing physical therapy restore not just his strength, but his confidence and dignity, left a lasting impression on me.
Over the past 26 years, I have served as a volunteer, aide, and physical therapist assistant across inpatient, rehabilitation, skilled nursing, home health, and outpatient settings. I believe this profession is rooted in a holistic approach, one that values trust, honesty, and genuine human connection. Walking alongside patients during some of their most vulnerable moments has been both a privilege and a source of deep personal fulfillment.”
