CT Technologist Job Responsibilities

The main duties of a CT technologist involve preparing and positioning patients for computerized tomography (CT) scans. The CT Tech ensures patient safety, maintains equipment, keeps records, and produces medical images in order to help radiologists diagnose and identify illness.

CT Technologist Salary

As of May 2018, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports that CT Technologists make:

  • An average of $59,520 a year
  • The lower end makes around $40,630 a year
  • The higher-end makes more than $86,350 a year

CT Technologist Employment Outlook

The demand for CT Technologist jobs is on the rise. The BLS predicts that this career will increase by 9% by 2028. This is higher than average, and positive outlook CT Tech careers.

CT Technologist School Requirements

CT Technologists are required to have an accredited associate’s degree or higher. You must also have certification, and licensure is required in most states. Even if you are not required by your state to have licensure, doing so can greatly increase your job prospects, whether you’re new to the profession or a CT veteran.

As a CT Technologist, you are required to obtain an associate’s degree or higher in the general category of the radiologic technician, and then obtain certification in the CT field.
