Dedicated SLP Appreciates Ability to Make Impact in Patients’ Lives

April 16, 2025

Our Latest Field Staff Recognition Winner

Preferred is thrilled to introduce Alexis D., a fantastic Speech-Language Pathologist who works in the acute rehab setting at our client facility in Sacramento, California. Alexis’s recruiter, Peyton Pyburn, nominated her because she is committed to making a positive difference in the lives of her patients, helping them to recover and improve their cognitive-communication and swallowing skills.

What Motivates Alexis to Be a Speech-Language Pathologist?

“My journey into speech-language pathology is driven by a desire to help people recover and improve their cognitive-communication and swallowing skills following significant life events. This field allows me to support clients as they navigate the challenges posed by communication and swallowing disorders, empowering them to reclaim their voices and reconnect with their lives.

What I find most rewarding about my work is the ability to accompany and collaborate with clients and families on their personal journeys toward recovery. Each person I work with has a distinct narrative, and it is incredibly gratifying to witness their progress as they overcome difficulties and regain vital skills. The relationships built during therapy sessions emphasize the essential role that effective communication plays in fostering meaningful interactions and improving overall quality of life.

This profession calls for a thoughtful integration of research-backed strategies and flexibility in addressing each client’s specific needs. Every milestone reached serves as a reminder of the significant impact that speech-language pathologists have in promoting communication and enhancing autonomy. Being an SLP is not merely a career; it is a profound privilege that motivates me daily as I strive to empower others and contribute to their journeys toward greater independence and fulfillment.”
