Fortunate Accident Leads to Satisfying Career as a Sonographer

May 25, 2022

Our Latest Field Staff Recognition Winner

We have the privilege of introducing Alissa G., a personable Sonographer who performs abdomen, OB/GYN, and vascular ultrasounds at a hospital and outpatient imaging clinic in Duluth, Minnesota. Alissa’s recruiter, Cole Kilen, nominated her because of the excellent work that she does and the positive feedback from our client. Congratulations, Alissa, for earning this well-deserved award!

How Alissa Unexpectedly Became a Sonographer

“I got into ultrasound by accident. I originally applied to a radiologic technology program at a rural technical college in Georgia after all my prerequisites were met, but they lost my application. The school offered to let me, a Navy veteran, enter the very competitive ultrasound program instead (until the program I chose had a spot for me in class). I ended up choosing ultrasound over x-ray because I was already over a third done with my associates degree by then, and I absolutely don’t regret it. I think, besides the science of ultrasound, my favorite part of the job is the patients. It is very easy and enjoyable to gain their trust, help them out, and make them feel like they got the best exam possible while teaching them about their anatomy and what different organs look like. I also enjoy spending a lot of ‘downtime’ at work helping my other radiology colleagues with moving patients, setting up for procedures, and learning about the other modalities.”
