Having crucial resources at your fingertips is key.  Being able to reference helpful physical therapy information at the right time can be the difference in providing excellent patient care.   After reviewing several sources of mobile apps for physical therapists, we have compiled a list of the top 10 available.  What PT apps have we missed and what are you using?

Muscle Premium

This powerful app, created by Visible Body, is the best-selling reference for reviewing muscle and bone details and explaining anatomy to physical therapy patients.  This app gives you the ability to rotate, shift and move in any direction to look at the anatomy from any angle. $19.99

Muscle and Bone Anatomy 3D

This app, created by Real Bodywork, allows you to show your therapy patients their injured areas through the use of 3D imaging, diagrams which allow you to zoom in and out, and helpful and informational videos. $4.99

Muscle Trigger Points

Muscle Trigger Points, also by Real Bodywork, discusses trigger points in detail.  You can select any muscle you are interested in, and see a detailed explanation and photo of common trigger points and referral patterns.  $2.99

Pocket Anatomy

Recently updated, this app created by Pocket Anatomy features a stunning graphical interface and 9 layers of musculoskeletal, neurovascular, and internal organ visual content.  It also contains over 100,000 words of valuable learning material so that you can further educate your rehab therapy patients. $14.99

iOrtho+

Created by Therapeutic Articulations, LLC, iOrtho+ is a wonderful physical therapy resource including over 200 orthopedic special tests and 88 joint mobilization techniques.  There are many references available, with links to journal abstracts which explain the effectiveness of each procedure.  FREE

CORE

Created by Clinically Relevant Technologies, this app is a portable, expert reference tool for diagnosing musculoskeletal and orthopedic disorders.  The Clinical Orthopedic Exam offers you a robust database of over 400 clinical tests with descriptions on how to perform them on your physical therapy patients, video demonstrations, diagnostic properties and links to supporting medical references.   $39.99

Mobile OMT Spine

Also created by Clinically Relevant Technologies, Mobile OMT is a powerful physical therapy reference and teaching tool, great for any PT student, clinician or educator involved in manipulative/manual therapy for musculoskeletal disorders.  This app is a comprehensive mobile companion, providing manipulative techniques for the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine when treating spine disorders.  $29.99

Goniometer

The Goniometer app, produced by Jinfra, is used in measuring a patient’s range-of-motion for a particular joint.  This measurement is used to determine the extent of a patient’s joint injury and the expected speed of recovery.  Easy to use, you simply place your iPhone or iPad next to the joint to be measured in line with the axis, and use your finger to drag the arms to match the anatomical alignment to bony prominences, and it gives you the angle.  $4.99

KCapture

Shoulder Decide, Knee Decide and Spine Decide

This is a collection of apps created by Orca Health which focuses on patient education.  These apps allow you to show your rehab therapy patients anatomy, diagrams and videos which you can use during evaluation and treatment sessions.  These apps also explain common therapy programs that your patients can refer to for treatment.  FREE
